Extensive Garden with Home Office

This was a beautifully located old mill house with a large riverside garden adjacent to an old mill.  The site consisted of a large lawn area with paddock located within the flood plane of a river.  Being so close to the river this site was prone to occasional flooding. The clients required a garden that would tolerate floods whilst providing a space to entertain and relax and provide privacy from a public footpath.  

The design team created a formal garden adjacent to the house which had to be raised up to prevent flooding. English oak timbers were used to retain the bank nearest the house and along the river to create an elevated platform. Paving was laid around the house with a glass balustrade along the bank which contained a globe seating pod overlooking the river. 

A formal lawn lined with pleached trees and planting led up to the bespoke designed, cedar clad garden office with a green sedum roof.  Trees and a wild flower meadow with mown paths were incorporated into the paddock area. A circular raised island with planting was situated in the centre of the paddock area to create a focal point and interest when the land around it was flooded.



Contemporary Garden Leicester

A brand new building was designed and built on an established residential street and the owners wanted to create a garden that complemented the modern architecture but was easy to maintain.  

Our design team created an area for entertaining and relaxing, with a water feature and low maintenance planting.  The design consists of three lawns and stunning porcelain paving and steps down to the house. 

Pleached trees line the large lawn area whilst stepped hedging frame the garden. A sunken area housing an outdoor kitchen and dining area is covered with a green roof of sedum.  

A bespoke water feature cascades down one side of the garden. Rendered white washed walls tie in with the finish of the house and create drama.

Barn Conversion

A formal garden created to complement this barn conversion and lead the eye to the amazing view of the countryside and hills beyond.  Various levels of planting, paving and steps have the power to move you through the garden.  Naturalistic planting almost echoes the movement of the hillside beyond the garden wall.  The gate at the bottom of the garden entices you to walk towards it to see the beauty beyond the stone wall.

Architectural New Build with integrated Garden Design

This is a modern 'Passive House' designed by Paul Testa Architecture to be environmentally energy efficient, thus reducing the building's ecological footprint.  The garden design was conceived during the build process so is integral with the design of the house.  Much of the landscape is given to lawn area with wild flower seed planted under the tree to the left of the garden, where the kids can climb and swing on lazy summer days.  

The open plan kitchen/diner opens up onto a patio area, for cooking and dining, and a sunken seating area which can be illuminated in the evenings.  Bespoke water features add a relaxed atmosphere, movement and sound.

Three cuboid pergolas punctuate the garden creating a focal point from various vantage points (the office, kitchen and outdoor dining area).

To the left side of the house, is an office and garage.  The garden extends down to the office by way of a double water feature and small courtyard garden. 

The planting in this garden will take time to establish but has been designed to really fill out, creating waves of colour, form and texture.  We can't wait to revisit this garden to see the planting in full bloom.

This seating area was designed, built and planted using beautiful sand stone seating blocks which creates an enclosed courtyard where our clients can sit and relax.  Verdant green and purple planting softens the outlook into the garden.

Country House Garden

This beautiful garden comprises of a courtyard walled garden with box hedging and herb garden to the side.  The main gardens are lawned with pleached hedge walkway, natural pond and formal seating area to dine and entertain.  Located in a lovely village in Lincolnshire, this house and garden is a joy of lush planting that has all year round interest.

Circular Garden Design

A simple circular design adds interest to a long narrow garden.  In this design the path travels through a serious a grass 'full stops' until reaching a circular paved area with seating.  The wooden structures add height, interest and define the flower border where tall naturalist planting will eventually grow to frame the curved paths.  

Garden with Focal Water Feature

This family garden was transformed into a place to relax and entertain.  The asymmetrical design of the lawn is framed by living 'walls' of hedging and the silver birch trees bring definition, height and dappled light into the garden.  Naturalistic planting surrounds the focal water feature, which flows into a sunken water bath set into the natural coloured stone, attracting birds and insects to the garden.

Front Garden

This Victorian North London home, with its tiled path to the front door, was designed for easy maintenance but eye catching design.  The bespoke planters were designed using corten steel which has weathered to complement the red brick, with verdant planting, copper grasses and and a multi-stemmed amelanchier to create privacy.

Riverside Courtyard Garden

A tiny hidden courtyard overlooking the river Trent needed a complete overhaul.  The established sunken circular paving was made from concrete, uneven and extremely unsafe.  There were few plants and little space to sit and enjoy the garden.

Our client was a real plants woman so she wanted an abundance of flowers, plants and a tree to attract feeding birds and wildlife to her garden.  The planting will eventually fill the garden and hide the seating area from the path whilst still giving views across the river.  

The natural Indian stone provides a generous space for seating and space to watch the birds, butterflies and bees that are sure to be enticed into this little oasis.

Family and Friendship Garden, Belton

This design is a perfect family garden with a sunken seating area and a covered outdoor kitchen area perfect for entertaining.  

Corten steel features have been integrated in the design with a porch way and bespoke planter to the front, seat backs and fire pit in the seating area and water features to the rear.  Words from the clients favourite song have been laser cut into the back of the seating area where they plan to sit with family and friends.  

A bespoke garden room has been designed to fit the space and incorporates a green sedum roof. There is a spacious lawn area and steps down to a paved patio area where the children can play.

Wedding Venue Garden

We had the pleasure of designing a social space to host wedding parties in the grounds of an old coach house adjacent to a beautiful Elizabethan house in Lincolnshire.

The site was a long garden of an old coach house enclosed by a contemporary extension.

Our brief was to provide plenty of space for wedding parties, with places to sit and photo opportunities to create a sense of romance.

The designers created a large lawn area punctuated by gravel terrace under an existing tree, timber pergola and paved paths for all weather access. The planting was zoned to provide a variety of backgrounds and colours. The large border was planted with vibrant colours and late-flowering prairie style plants, with a more traditional English country scheme of roses and herbaceous plants around the pergola and a woodland border of birch trees under-planted with varieties of white flowering plants.

The Snowdrop Garden

This was an NHS hospital garden specifically designed as a therapeutic space for people living with dementia. Inspiration for the garden came from the humble snowdrop which provides a welcome sight towards the end of the winter months and also give hope to those suffering with dementia as its medicinal powers are known to slow down the destructive processes of Alzheimer’s and dementia.

Site – The site the team were presented with was a long, thin courtyard garden set within the hospital site. The concrete paving was harsh and barren offering no respite or relaxation.

Brief – The brief given by the hospital was to create a stimulating and safe garden environment for people suffering from dementia and serious mental health problems.

Design – The garden design was divided into three distinct areas to allow for different activities and to stimulate different associations. The Terrace, with lots of seating for visitors and familiar aromatic herbs to stimulate the senses and aid relaxation. The Green with tactile planting such as grasses that sway and add movement and space for activities such as bowls. The Oasis, with the sound of water and lush planting for quiet contemplation. The whole garden is linked by a ribbon path, ensuring residents always return ‘home’.
